 History

The history of our Company in Minsk Mazowiecki begins in year 1898, when Konstanty Rudzki founded the bridges and steel structures building workshop, known as Konstanty Rudzki and Company.

  Konstanty Rudzki i Spółka

In the first period of it’s existence the factory mainly produced bridge structures, roof trusses, steam boilers and a wide range of cast iron products.

Until the year 1918 the Company manufactured many hundred of thousands of metres of railway and road steel bridges, laid over 2 million metres of water pipes and built 600 water pumping stations.

Of the bridges manufactured in that period about 30 of them were big, with lengths from 300 to 2600 m, with a framework structure of various systems, among others on the rivers: Volga – 2576 m, Amur – 2598 m, Yenisei – 2556 m, built in years 1907 – 1913.

The main market for the company’s products was the former Russian Empire.

After the 1st World War the factory expanded production with new products. Many water turbines were built, among them the first Polish turbine with 1000 HP power, as well as a 127 m high steel radio towers for the Transatlantic Radio Centre in Warsaw.

In the twenties the new hoisting machines production department delivered many, what for that time were considered, very serious products, like an overhead travelling crane with a hoisting capacity of 50 t and span of 20 m for the thermo-electric power station in Łódź, and gantry cranes for the new port of Gdynia. Special attention should be paid to the manufacture by the company of the first all welded steel bridge in the world on the Słudwia river next to the town of Łowicz. The bridge was designed by a Polish professor named Stefan Bryła.

In years 1930 – 1939 the Company exported its products to Mexico, China and many Far East countries.

In the late forties the factory was thoroughly modernised and expanded, changing its name to:

FABRYKA URZĄDZEŃ DŹWIGOWYCH
National Company.

The series of changes, which took place in the beginning of the nineties allowed the factory to adapt itself to the current market needs.

In 1995 the factory started a series of ownership changes, and its name was changed to:

FABRYKA URZĄDZEŃ DŹWIGOWYCH
Joint Stock Company.

In the beginning of year 2000 the main block of shares was sold to Kingfisher Technology Corporation Ltd. At that moment the company started to come full circle and return to private ownership. In 2005 over 90% of the shares were held by Szulc family interests and the management of the company. The remainder are held by current and former employees of the company. In this way the company closed the circle of private ownership.

Currently the company has focused on the most important products, like overhead cranes (over 11,000 delivered ), port, floating, shipyard, dock and deck cranes, while still offering products and technical possibilities to a wide range of customers all over the world.

The factory cooperates, on the basis of long-term contracts, with the companies in England, Wales, Germany, Belgium, Holland and Russia as well as a world wide customer base.
